Bonus Episode
Welcome to Episode-Bonus. You know that I am a Domestic Violence survivor. I will always open my platform for voices to be heard. I had the pleasure of interviewing Sandy Kirkham an Author and speaker on abuse perpetrated by clergymen. I advocate on this platform for Domestic Violence survivors. We all have stories to tell. These stories are not outliers. We will not be silenced anymore because a disguise changes the power dynamics. Clergymen have a moral obligation to the church members not the institution, to inform them when a sex offender is amongst one of them and scarier yet, our children. This man had a record of aggressive behaviors towards a young minor female. This man was allowed to commit a heinous act towards a faithful member. A member who saw him as a pillar of the community. This is the story of Sandy Kirkham. She is not her Trauma but her recovery. Telling her story and spreading awareness allows for information to be spread in hopes that many come forward to report their aggressors. Everyone has the right to confront their accusers. Sandy Kirkham took the most crucial step toward her healing, and she confronted the accused. We will always unite to help liberate someone else who is suffering because someone of higher status is the aggressor. Sandy went from surviving to thriving. I hope you enjoy this interview. I will be back next Monday with Episode 33-Marjorie West part 2. I will plug in Sandy’s information and where you can buy the book, she authored called Let me Prey upon you. That has a double entendre love it. You can purchase it on her website below. I have my copy sent to me in the mail. I cannot wait to read it. I know we have lost faith in the church and those who police it because they wear the same uniform, but we at least must try and fight in Washington D.C and advocate for better protections of the laws to protect victims. No one has the right to place a statute of limitation on your traumas. Sandy and I are allies and if you feel you want to reach out you can do so. About Sandy Kirkham: A church is where an insecure sixteen-year-old girl should feel welcome, happy, and most importantly, safe. Tragically for some, the church can become a place of great harm. Sandy Phillips Kirkham experienced the deceit and lies that come with being the victim of a wolf in sheep's clothing… her church’s youth minister. After decades of keeping her deep secret, Sandy discovered her voice and has made it her life’s work to be an advocate for others.
Sandy continues to use her voice to help victims of clergy abuse. She is a highly requested speaker, podcast guest and media liaison on the topic.
Sandy has spoken before the Ohio Senate, a Maryland court, and appeared on a local television show in Boston. Her story, “Stolen Innocence,” was told in a documentary produced by The Hope of Survivors. Sandy works with survivors conducting victim support conferences. She has participated on panels moderated by SNAP (Survivors Network of those Abused by Priests), sharing her perspective from the non-Catholic point of view
